At 21:52 hours on Tuesday August 10th crews were called to North 5th Street in West Newton Borough for an automatic fire alarm. Crew arrived on scene to find an audible alarm coming from a residence with nothing further showing. After a search of the house a smoke alarm was located on a table and after some time the homeowners were alerted to come to the door. Seems they were unsure how to deactivate a faulty detector and chose to place it on the porch for the night so they could get some rest. Captain 82 cleared all crews.
At 2:20 hours crews were called once again into the borough for an automatic fire alarm at West Newton Elementary and within minutes activated for a vehicle accident on Vine Street with a pole and wires down. Rescue 82 responded to the accident and Assistant 82 sent all other units to the elementary school. After an extensive search it was determined the power outage due to the vehicle accident tripped the alarm and Squirt 82 cleared all units. Crews from West Newton remained on scene of the vehicle accident until Allegheny Power secured the scene and restored power to the town.
